A beta test for Pokemon Unite, the upcoming Pokemon MOBA, will soon launch. You'll be able to check out gameplay for Pokemon Unite in March, but there are a couple of caveats, including where you are and what type of device you've got.

What do we know about the Pokemon Unite beta?

This news comes to us via the official Pokemon website. In an announcement on the site, the Pokemon Unite devs say they've been hard at work on the game since it was first announced back in June 2020. The devs say they've punched up the visuals, added more playable Pokemon, and made some changes to the gameplay, among other things. As a result, the game is now ready for beta testing.

Pokemon Unite was first announced eight months ago in June 2020.

If you want to sign up for a chance to play the beta, you can do so on the Google Play Store. There are a couple of restrictions, though: you can only sign up if you've got an Android device, and only Canadian residents are able to sign up for the beta. In addition, you will need to be aged 16 or over. The devs say the game is "optimized for smartphones, not tablets", and will run on any Android device that has 3GB of RAM or more. You'll also need Android 5.0 or above.

What is Pokemon Unite?

Pokemon Unite is Pokemon's take on the MOBA genre popularized by games like League of Legends and Dota 2. Like those games, players will form teams of 5 to face off against one another, but Unite adds its own Pokemon-themed spin to the genre. You'll work with your teammates to capture, level up, and evolve your Pokemon, all while your opponent does the same. Of course, this being a MOBA, you'll be facing off against the Pokemon your opponents have caught.

The Pokemon Company says it'll reveal more information about Pokemon Unite throughout 2021. We're hoping that includes when the rest of the world can get its hands on the game. Right now, iOS users and those outside of Canada aren't eligible to check out the Pokemon Unite beta, so stay tuned for more info as to when the game will be more widely available. The Pokemon Unite beta will begin in March, although we don't have a specific date yet.
