Niantic has detailed a brand new quest system set to come to Pokémon GO as part of the next update. Speaking in a post on the game's website, Niantic detailed the two different ways that players can contribute to the new tasks. These build up to the end goal of discovering the mythical Pokémon Mew:
"There are two different types of research you can contribute to: Field Research and Special Research. Gather Field Research tasks by spinning nearby PokéStops, which will give you objectives that include discovering and catching certain Pokémon or engaging with battles, among other things. Special Research may be requested by Professor Willow himself, and will take you on a journey to make important discoveries!"
Pokemon Go's research offers a bunch of cool rewards including useful items and new Pokémon encounters. Research tasks come with varying levels of difficulty, with harder ones granting better rewards. Special Research Breakthroughs can be earned by collecting stamps. Each day you complete a Field Research, you earn a stamp and with seven stamps you trigger a reward. On rare occasions, this award can lead to an encounter with a Legendary Pokémon.
Pokemon Go's new update also adds a storyline type of quest, in which players must complete a series of tasks to get closer to catching the Mythical Pokémon Mew. Polygon is reporting that Niantic confirmed to them that the update is going to release March 30th, despite the lack of a date in the post.
This event follows one which was announced last week. The Pokémon GO Eggstravaganza runs until April 2 and sees players hatching an even greater variety of Pokémon found in 2 km Eggs, with double Candy and Stardust also on offer.
