Niantic has announced the very first Pokemon Go Friendship Day event will be arriving later this month. This new event will feature an increase in Grass-type spawns and the chance to get a ton of XP.
Pokemon Go has tons of special events, each of which gives gamers the opportunity to score some sweet rewards or catch some different kinds of pokemon. The upcoming Friendship Day event is no different — and some of the XP bonuses are pretty substantial, especially for newer players.
To start, "various" Grass-type Pokemon will be appearing more often. There are quite a few Grass-types in the game, so the wording here implies that not every single Grass-type may get a greater spawn chance for the duration of the event. These spawns will be complemented with a green confetti effect on the map.
As always, there will be some challenges for you to complete. If you can complete the entire Friendship Day Collection Challenge before the event ends, you'll score a cool 100,000 XP. Each hourly challenge will award 20,000 XP upon completion. If you can't complete these events, you should still try to get out there and catch some 'mons; a 3x Catch XP bonus will be active for the duration of the event.
This event will have some bonuses, too. Trading with a friend will have a greater chance of scoring a Lucky Pokemon, and that will be made much easier through an increase of trade distance to 40km (≈24.85 miles). Finally, the Pokemon Go Friendship Day event will give you a good reason to use Incense and Lures — both of these items will last for three hours apiece.
When is the Pokemon Go Friendship Day Start Date?
The Pokemon Go Friendship Day start date is Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM local time. That means there will be a total of three hourly events, bringing the total possible XP you can earn up to 160,000.
If you want to take advantage of that trading bonus, though, you're gonna need something to trade. Now's as good a time as any to play Pokemon Go for free on Android and iOS via the game's official website.
