Pokemon Direct Promises 20 Minutes of New Info January 9

Pokemon Sword and Shield fans will certainly have something to look forward to in the next couple of days — a brand-new Pokemon Direct will be arriving on January 9, 2020.

"Tune in on 1/9 at 6:30 a.m. PT for roughly 20 minutes of new Pokémon information in a live-streamed Pokémon Direct presentation," read a tweet on Nintendo of America's official account.

The information on this upcoming Direct is awfully barebones, and so I turned to the /r/Pokemon subreddit for a quick primer on what the fan base expects to see. Odds are we'll probably finally learn some more details about Pokemon Home and Pokemon Sleep. Pokemon Home is basically going to be the way for you to store and manage all of your Pokemon across games. Pokemon Sleep, on the other hand, is an app that tracks your sleep and somehow makes a gameplay experience out of that.

There's the possibility (as always) that we'll be hearing about a new game announcement. (For reference's sake, Pokemon Sword and Shield were announced in February of 2019.) Of course, some fans were also joking about the possibility of remakes or remasters, with one joking that we're sure to see "Pokemon Sharper Sword and Sturdier Shield", referencing the "Ultra" monicker that previous games Pokemon Sun and Shield got in their second release.
