Pokemon Day 2020 has been announced for February in celebration of the game's anniversary. What's more, it's pretty much been declared an official holiday in Japan.

Way back in 1996, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green were released for the original Game Boy. Since then, the franchise has exploded into a media empire worth more than $60 billion with new game releases every year, the latest of which is Pokemon Sword and Shield for the Nintendo Switch.

Now, Pokemon Day 2020 will celebrate this franchise's history in a very real way — special in-game events are coming to multiple Pokemon titles!

What's Coming for Pokemon Day 2020?

So, what events are coming for Pokemon Day 2020? ResetEra highlighted a news post on The Pokemon Company's Japanese website, detailing what we can expect to see in less than a month.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

  • A special Max-Raid battle will be taking place.
  • A new Mythical Pokemon will be revealed.
    • This new Mythical Pokemon will be featured in the upcoming Pokemon movie Coco.

Pokemon Go

  • An unspecified in-game event or events will take place.

Pokemon Masters

  • More information about Pokemon Masters will be revealed.

When is Pokemon Day 2020 Arriving?

So, it looks like Japan is getting some neat in-game goodies for various Pokemon titles. (Unfortunately, it seems like Pokemon Let's Go might be left out of the celebrations.) At the moment it hasn't been confirmed whether these events will also be coming to the west but with Pokemon now a simultaneous release it's likely.

Still, it would be uncharacteristic of The Pokemon Company to leave everyone else out for a big multiplatform event like this, so hopefully, we'll hear an official English announcement soon. Pokemon Day 2020 will be February 27, 2020.
