Following the recent news surrounding the upcoming release of PlayStation VR, multiple European Amazon stores have reported to have sold out of preorders for the upcoming Sony peripheral.

In accordance to Gamerant and Dualshockers, the upcoming headset was quick to sell out all across the stores of Amazon UK, Amazon Germany, Amazon Italy and Amazon France. Amazon UK in particular sold out of stock within the first 7 minutes of opening up the orders, with a second batch of units allocated in soon after.

While most of the European stores are not accepting anymore orders at the present time, Amazon UK is still open for pre-purchasing. However given the popular demand, Amazon UK has issued a statement saying that customers can only procure one unit. In addition to this, preorders made after 11:45 GMT, Wednesday 16 March, 2016 are also not guaranteed a delivery upon release day.

In addition to the news, Sony corporation shares have since jumped by 3.2% after unveiling the PlayStation VR.

PlayStation VR is slated for an October release and is to be priced around USD $399/CAD $549/44,980 YEN/EUR €399/GBP £349/AUS $549.95. Prices listed for NA and Japan are all before tax, while the Australian and European prices include tax. While the PlayStation VR bundle is said to not include the necessary controllers (DualShock 4, PlayStation Move) or PlayStation Camera needed to function properly, reports from Tech Insider suggest that Sony will be releasing a bundle that comes packed with the additional peripherals.

Quick Take

With around 36 million PlayStation 4 owners and the rise of popularity in virtual technology, it comes as no surprise that preorders for this peripheral have sold out so quickly. Despite Sony Computer Entertainment Vice President Masayasu Ito even saying that the PlayStation VR might not even be able to match the same level of quality from the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, the price range certainly seems to come across as the more 'consumer friendly' alternative given the Rift and Vive's requirement for a powerful $1000 computer. That said, I feel that all of Sony, Oculus and HTC have the potential to cash in on the market. I only hope that the bloody things work upon release!

What are your thoughts on the PlayStation VR selling out so fast? Are you considering of ordering yourself one of these peripherals later down the track? Or do you perhaps feel that 'Virtual Reality' in itself is just another obscure gimmick? Let us know in the comments below!
