PlayStation Plus Free Games May What Remains of Edith Finch Overcooked

The PlayStation Plus May 2019 games lineup has been announced on the PlayStation Blog, and it consists of two games that at first might seem too different to go together, but you could argue there's a common thread to both of them, which is family. Both What Remains of Edith Finch and Overcooked! are grounded in the family experience. In the former, you unravel a tragic family history through outlandish stories. And in the latter, you can have some couch co-op fun with friends and family, making a kitchen mess.

What Remains of Edith Finch is one of the most critically acclaimed first-person adventure games, also known somewhat pejoratively as walking simulators. It's a slow-burning game, where you visit and explore your old family home as the last heir of the cursed Finch family line. You must unravel the thread of your relatives' untimely deaths by interacting with items scattered through the house. It can be described as a somber and surreal gaming experience, and occasionally quite moving if you're emotionally invested. It won the Best Game 2017 from the British Academy Games Award (BAFTA) and Best Narrative award at the Game Developers Choice Awards 2018, which are no mean feats.

Overcooked! is more of a comical and fun experience that was designed with local co-op in mind, making it optimal for couch gaming with your family and friends. It's a fun and frenzied cooking simulator that you can play with up to four players. You'll join forces to become a team of chefs working against the clock to deliver dishes for hungry customers. There's a strong emphasis on teamwork and timing, and communication is a must as you chop vegetables, fry steaks, stir sauces, and finally serve the meals. You also need to keep the kitchen from catching fire.

This selection of titles will allow you to both immerse yourself in an introspective experience and also have some casual good old time with friends and family, making it a decent offering from Sony. Both games will be available to download from PlayStation Store on May 7, but until then there are still a few days left for you to pick up two games from the PS+ April selection, which includes Conan Exiles, a unique take on the survival RPG set in the Conan universe, and The Surge, a brutal and rewarding action-RPG through a sci-fi dystopia.
