Turns out the leaks were correct. The PlayStation Plus Essential August 2022 lineup has officially been revealed, and there are some very solid games indeed up for grabs this month, including a beloved JRPG and a pair of truly gnarly sports titles.

What's in the PlayStation Plus Essential August 2022 lineup?

After Sony unveiled the games coming to the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers earlier this month (including the rather excellent Stray), the company has now revealed the PlayStation Plus Essential August 2022 lineup. As a reminder, you'll get these games if you're subscribed to any of the three PS Plus tiers, although you will need to remain subscribed if you want to play them. Here's what you're getting next month in your PlayStation Plus Essential haul.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS5 and PS4)

Ichiban, Saeko, Nanba, and Adachi in Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Kazuma Kiryu bowed out as the Yakuza series' protagonist in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, but Ichiban Kasuga proved himself a more than adequate replacement for Kiryu in 2020's Yakuza: Like a Dragon. With a drastic gameplay switch-up to turn-based combat and a renewed emphasis on Kasuga as a character, Like a Dragon is arguably exactly the revitalization the franchise needed. You can play this one on both PS4 and PS5.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 (PS4, PS5)

Two of the most beloved skating games of all time are remastered and given new life in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. The DualSense features for the PS5 version might not be entirely up to scratch, but this is still the best game the Tony Hawk franchise has seen in years, so if you've got nostalgia for the old days of unlocking outlandish characters and performing ridiculous tricks, check this one out on PS4 or PS5.

Little Nightmares (PS4, playable on PS5)

Six exploring the ship in Little Nightmares, a PlayStation Plus Essential August 2022 game

Do you get to sleep too easily at night? If so, then take a look at Little Nightmares. It's a terrifyingly grotesque puzzle platformer in which you play as a young child attempting to escape a huge vessel inhabited by horrifyingly twisted and monstrous adults. You can play this one on PS4, but it's also playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility. If you enjoy this one, make sure to take a look at the sequel as well.

That's all she wrote, folks. This is a pretty strong PlayStation Plus Essential lineup, but remember that if you want to get your hands on last month's games, you'll need to download them before they disappear on August 1st. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About TimeArcadegeddon, and Man of Medan are all still downloadable right now, but they won't be once the new games arrive, so grab them while you can. You can subscribe to PlayStation Plus right now via the official website
