The PlayStation conference shows off a brand new trailer for Capcom's Monster Hunter: World, confirming the previously posted story of Capcom filing a trademark for the game. As it turns out, Monster Hunter: World is a totally new I.P in the Monster Hunter franchise.
The trailer is pure gameplay, where we see the player's avatar tracking and collecting of items and resources, all in beautiful high-res graphics and sounds. The player hides from smaller creatures and uses a variety of tools for stealth before taking on a large, tyrannosaurus-looking monster, running and jumping across a jungle terrain and using the environment to their advantage against the massive beast.
New weapons are showcased in the trailer, including a machine gun and a grappling hook that was used extensively against the tyrannosaurus monster. Scaling walls and trees seems to be a major part of Monster Hunter: World, and using the full range of the terrain to your advantage will make monster hunting even more dynamic. We also see fire-breathing dragons, giant toad creatures, a bunch of other monster hunters and even roasting some meat on a portable spit.
According to a press release by Capcom, Monster Hunter: World will contain a "seamless gameplay experience" that will allow players to move freely across large map areas that are comprised of living ecosystems. The landscape also will feature dynamic lighting effects and day-to-night transitions, creating more immersive environment for monster hunters to get lost in.
Capcom also talks about the game's multiplayer mode, which has been totally revamped for Monster Hunter: World. Up to four players at a time can go hunting together, and for the first time in the Monster Hunter series, players from Japan and the West can play together online, providing an expanded base of cooperative hunting companions across the world. Online play will also support drop-in and out gameplay, so players can request or receive assistance for quests at any time so long as you are connected online.
This will be the first mainline Monster Hunter title for the PlayStation since Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, released back in 2011. This is also the second major Monster Hunter title to be released by Capcom this year, with the Switch version of Monster Hunter Double Cross coming to Japan later this year. There is still no word if Double Cross, or XX, will get a Western Release, however.
Monster Hunter: World is revealed to be released in early 2018 for both the PS4 and Xbox One. A PC version of the game will also be released at a later date, as confirmed by the Monster Hunter Twitter account.
