Everyone's favorite web slinging comicbook superhero is making another appearance on PlayStation platforms in Marvel's Spider-Man. Developed by Insomniac Games, Spider-Man will be an open world adventure set in Spider-Man's hometown, New York City. This time however, he has the advantage of having a combat system that is reminiscent of Batman: Arkham Asylum's, albeit with a lot more environmental attacks (i.e. slinging a girder at someone), a lot more slow-mo, and a bit less punching, as the game seems to reward using Spider-Man's speed and agility to render foes unconscious rather than just outright beating thugs to a pulp.

Spider-Man's trailer also showed that you will be dealing with multiple criminal factions, including the Demons, a well-dressed gang whose leaders have acquired powers of some kind (whether they are magical or scientific in nature is yet to be determined, though judging by their name, likely the former). In addition, thanks to Spider-Man's abilities, you will be able to traverse up the side of buildings, across rooftops, and through collapsing construction sites with ease, letting you parkour in ways that would be impossible for normal humans.

While Spider-Man's gameplay debut does look nice from a graphical standpoint, it should be noted that there were a very large number of QTE scenarios, and there were no small number of scripted events. While one may argue that this helps add to the "Spider-Man" experience, it does bring up some questions over just how replayable the game is, or exactly how much freedom will you be given in a game that is supposed to give you an open-world view of Marvel's New York City.

On the bright side, Spider-Man will have a completely independent story from the films and comicbooks, giving you the opportunity to play as the famous web-slinger without fear of spoiling anything else. Spider-Man will feature some cameos from other media though, as evidenced by the presence of Miles Morales near the end of Sony's E3 gameplay trailer.
