Today the Japanese website Weekly Famitsu published an interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan, touching on a variety of topics.

In the interview, Ryan claims that the reason for gamers to pick up a PS5 focuses on the quality of its games.

"We believe that excellent and attractive games are the reason people choose PS5. This is true not only in Japan, but also in other regions."

Speaking of the Japanese market, Ryan mentions that it continues to be one of the most important for PlayStation. Not only because it's the second-largest in the world, as the fact that it's the birthplace of the brand is more relevant than simple statistics. SIE has a large number of employees in Japan and their work is among the factors that make the success of PlayStation possible. According to Ryan, Japan is part of PlayStation's culture, so it's very special and relevant.

On top of that, the country has many experienced gaming fans and creators. Some titles may not be a big hit in Japan, but it's still important to reach the Japanese community. Every market has its own peculiarities, so it's normal that there are some regions where certain games are successful, but the same game may not be a hit elsewhere. According to Ryan, the peculiarities of each region are among the elements that make the gaming business exciting.

The executive also mentioned that the PC market is indispensable to allow more people to enjoy PlayStation games, and the more hardware options Sony has, the better. Due to that, the company will proactively continue to release games on PC.

That being said, he also understands the importance of PS5 exclusivity and the main focus at PlayStation Studios is to ensure that gamers enjoy their gaming experience on PlayStation consoles, so they're trying to boost the number of PS5 exclusives while staggering the timing of PC releases. Ryan claims that Sony often has the opportunity to ask gamers for their opinions, and when asked about the timing of PC releases, many respond favorably to the idea of them coming 2-3 years after PS5.

Just yesterday, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki mentioned that the company is aiming to increase the number of its active users on PC as well as PS5.
