The Playstation 4 has just released in Japan. Sony's next gen console has been selling rapidly around the world, even though it had yet to release in Japan.

The Playstation 4 has sold over 5  million units worldwide without having launched previously in Sony's home territory of Japan.  Playstation products have always sold well in Japan due to Japan being Sony's headquarters as well as the litany of quality RPG's and Japanese centric games available on their consoles since the PS1.

In fact, most Playstation consoles have launched first in Japan, including the Playstation Vita which launched in Japan in 2011. The Vita slim also launched first in Japan.

As recompense for the longer wait, Sony included the game Knack with the Playstation 4 in Japan. The choice to delay the PS4 in Japan was due to the supply demands for PS4. Pre-order numbers for the PS4 were staggering, and the console sold 1 million units on its launch in North America and Canada.

The Playstation 4 remains scarce in the United States, due to large demand for the console. In a tactical effort, Sony decided to launch the Playstation 4 in North America and Canada, then Europe in November. Due to limited supply however, Japan had to wait. After being on the market for about three months Japanese gamers will finally be able to get their hands on Sony's fourth home console.

The youtube video above, from Sony's Japanese youtube channel, shows just how excited the Japanese public is for the Playstation 4. As with any console launch the excitement has risen as launch day grew closer. Games such as Metal Gear Solid 5 figure to sell very well in Japan, as they come from a Japanese developer and have always been well received there.

The Japanese launch of the Playstation 4 also figures to boost the sales of the Playstation 4 worldwide.
