PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Sells 2 Million Copies, Holds Charity Event

I think by now it's safe to say that PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is the next big hit coming from Steam's Early Access program. The game, made by the modder who created Battle Royale mods for games like DayZ and helped create H1Z1, passed the 1 million units sold mark halfway through last month. Now, only a few short weeks later, the PvP free for all has managed to slip past 2 million units sold.

To celebrate this occasion, developer Bluehole Inc is holding a charity event for Gamers Outreach, a charity organization that aims to provide handicapped kids and teens with the means to play video games. They do this to provide kids with a much-needed distraction from reality with the intent of creating "sustainable experiences that produce joy and minimize trauma for patients".

The team behind PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS are holding a stream on their Twitch channel on May 4 (from 9:00 AM PDT to 5:00 PM PDT) where 64 Europeans will take on 64 North Americans take on each other in a series of matches. Any donation given to Gamers Outreach during this event will be matched by Bluehole Inc up to a total of $100,000.

We're absolutely thrilled to work with PLAYERUNKNOWN and the entire BATTLEGROUNDS community on this incredible fundraiser. As fans ourselves, it's inspiring to see the outpouring of support from our fellow gamers. The funds raised during this event will make a tremendous difference for hospitalized children and their families for years to come.

On behalf of our whole team, we'd like to extend our thanks to everyone involved with this effort. Whether you're a streamer, donor, or helping to spread the word - your support is truly appreciated! Thank you for being a part of such a special event, and to Bluehole Inc. for being so generous and organizing this community initiative!

Zach Wigal, Founder of Gamers Outreach.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
