Its debut on Steam's Early Access came just a few weeks ago, but PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS is already making waves. After having spent 2 weeks at the top of the Steam charts, the Battle Royale-style game has managed to sell one million units. While it's not top of the charts anymore, the game has peaked at over 90,000 concurrent players. The game also seems very popular on Twitch, with more than 2000 streamers entertaining over 15,000 concurrent viewers on the streaming service.
We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the dedication of our players and we are truly humbled by their passionate response.PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS pits you against 99 other players in a no holds barred, no quarter given fight to the death where only one can come out as the victor. Players will have to move quickly to find supplies before other nearby players can. During the match, a large circle will be drawn around the group of islands you play on. This circle gets smaller and smaller as time goes on, and staying outside of the circle will kill you if you don't get back into the zone quickly. As we move to make improvements and deliver new content we will actively engage this growing fan base.
Brendan Greene (aka PLAYERUKNOWN)
Despite all the negative connotations that come with a game in Steam's Early Access program, Greene isn't planning on staying in the program for long. Currently, the plan is to have the game in Early Access for 6 months tops, after which version 1.0 will be released to the public. It is currently available on Steam for $29.99.
Quick Take
I've been enjoying the hell out of this game these past few days. It's a great mix of insanity that comes with large groups of players with open mics, and a tense shooter where death could quite literally be behind every door. What do you think of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS?
