Playcrafting Spring Play 2017

Playcrafting's Spring Play Expo will be taking place on April 27, 2017 at the Microsoft Building at 11 Times Square in Manhattan.

Playcrafting is an organization dedicated to bringing game development to the little guy with one-shot classes, multi-week courses, monthly demo nights, and quarterly expos for developers to show off their games. The latest expo by the organization will feature over 100 games (many of which will be playable) being presented by their developers. The expo will also include free pizza and refreshments as part of the experience.

The expo will largely be featuring video games and tabletop games from independent developers. Here is a small selection of the games being showcased:

  • AVARIAvs, a JRPG that adds some new twists to the genre and includes PvP combat.
  • Expoquest, a fantasy-themed card game where expo attendees must track down cards in the venue and brave dungeons at the event itself.
  • Horizon, a game based on the Scholastic books by Scott Westerfield.
  • Snippets, a fast-paced word-building party game for 2-8 players.
  • Sumera digital tabletop game that TechRaptor previewed last year where players try to curry favor with the gods by completing rituals.
In addition to the usual fare of developers showing off their games, Polygon's Executive Editor Brian Crecente will be giving a talk at 7:00 PM. His talk will focus on the topic of his career in Games Journalism and also cover some of the material featured in his upcoming Intro To Games Journalism course taking place at Playcrafting.

If you'd like to go to the Playcrafting Spring Play Expo but can't quite scratch up the cash, you can enter a contest to win tickets for the expo and the Five Points Festival here. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased on the Eventbrite page for the expo. The event will have two separate 90-minute time slots for attendees - 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM and 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM. Early bird tickets are $8.00 (plus fees) until April 26, after which the price raises to $15.
