If you've been looking at The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan with longing but just haven't been able to bring yourself to play it, salvation is here. From now until January 6th next year, Bandai Namco is giving a free Friend's Pass to anyone who buys Man of Medan or has already bought it.

The Friend's Pass allows you to play through the game's Shared Story mode with another player. In Shared Story, you and a buddy control two different characters in Man of Medan's story. Sometimes you'll be playing in the same environment, sometimes you won't. You'll both have to make the kind of decisions that will mean life or death for the various characters in the game. It's a pretty fun way to spend an evening or two.

To redeem your Friend's Pass, here's what you need to do:

  • PlayStation 4 or Xbox One: simply ask your buddy to download the free trial version of The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan. Once they've done that, you can invite them to play the Shared Story mode with you. Naturally, you will need the full game installed on your console.
  • Steam: this is a little more complicated. If you've got Man of Medan installed on Steam, you should see a second version of the game in your library. Open that and copy the serial number you see in the Steam pop-up. Send it to your friend and ask them to activate the key on Steam. This should grant them access to the Shared Story version of Man of Medan. Full instructions can be found right here.

In addition to the Friend's Pass, you'll also find a new version of The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is available to play right now. The Curator's Cut adds a raft of new post-game content that brings a new perspective to the game's narrative. If you keep the game updated, you should be able to access the Curator's Cut right now.
