Developer Might and Delight have announced the latest in its Shelter series. The third game is called Shelter 3 (believe it or not) and will be released for PC in 2020.
Shelter 3 will cast players in the role of an elephant. The herd must navigate the jungle together, avoiding predators and sharing resources to survive. Much like the first two Shelter games, the soundtrack will be composed by Swedish collective Retro Family. If you already know you're gonna love this one, you can wishlist it on Steam right here. Shelter 3 continues the papercraft aesthetic of its predecessors. Gameplay-wise, we don't know too much about Shelter 3 as of yet. It's a safe bet that the third game will feature the same sort of open-ended landscapes and light survival elements as the first two games. Shelter 3's official Steam page promises a journey "scattered with magical moments" in which players will continually discover new terrain and pathways to follow. When night falls, players will be able to discover "the fabled Ancestral Gathering Grounds". The game's not due out for release until 2020, so more gameplay details will likely become available in the coming weeks and months.
The first Shelter was released in 2013. In that game, players controlled a mother badger protecting her cubs from predators and the world around her. A sequel, Shelter 2, was released in 2015. This time, players were a mother lynx once again defending cubs. Shelter 2 iterated on the gameplay of its predecessors, introducing new movement and hunting mechanics as well as new ways to interact with your cubs. We're not sure how Shelter 3 will make us feel like real elephants - or how it'll fit into the grand canon of elephant-related games - but we're sure looking forward to finding out in 2020.
