Daybreak games have announced another delay to their upcoming title Planetside Arena. In a letter they released last Friday they said that they wanted to bring the release of the game into line with the planned release of the title on PS4, instead of releasing the game on PC first. The company claimed they have made the decision so they can present the most polished version possible across all platforms. This is the second time the PlanetSide battle royale title has been delayed, originally planned for a January 2019 release before being pushed back to March and now again delayed until this coming summer.
In the letter the company also said:
We’ve always envisioned PlanetSide Arena as a way for players to experience the epic gameplay of the PlanetSide universe, through fast-paced, combined arms combat and massive-scale multiplayer modes. We believe that delivering the most polished version of PlanetSide Arena that meets these expectations, on both platforms, outweighs any other consideration.
Anyone who has already pre-ordered Planetside Arena will be getting a refund in light of the games new launch plans. The game was previously available for pre-order on steam at two different price points, initially $19.98 and $39.97 but there is no word yet if or when the game will be available to pre-order again, and if the lower price will be available in the future.
Some expressed concerns that the game was being delayed due to the shock success of Apex Legends, another contender in the staggeringly popular Battle Royale competition sparked by PUBG and Fortnite. While Planetside Arena will feature classic shooter game modes and a massive 250 v 250 battle it will also be shipping with a Battle Royale mode at launch, with some of the other gamemode playlists coming later on.
