Planetside 2, the free to play futuristic MMOFPS which has been out on PC since 2012 is coming to PS4 soon. John Smedley, president of SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) the developer and publisher of the game, confirmed on Twitter that the beta for the PS4 version of the game will be released in the next few months. Originally Planetside 2 was supposed to be a launch title for the PS4, but due to complexities in the development of the game, the release has been push backed. Naturally, gamers have complained that Planetside 2 and other titles have not instantaneously willed their way to existence solely based on their individual demand. Smedley responded to such complaints with "it takes how long it takes. Anyone else doing thousands of players in the same map let me know."
SOE has been pushing for a 2014 release date. Although no hard date has been given, it would make sense that getting the game out for the Christmas season would be a priority. John Smedley further explained "we will likely do several stages. technical first followed by a big beta. can't give specific dates yet because work to do." The fact that Smedley did not re-iterate the promise of even a beta by 2014 seems very unlikely that the full release will make it by year's end but perhaps some stage of beta testing will. The developers have been showing off various things from the PS4 version of the game on their Twitch streams and the game is looking good so far.
