Miju Games has revealed its plans for the future of its terraforming game The Planet Crafter; players can look forward to new updates "every 2-3 months."

The Planet Crafter is a single-player, first-person survival and crafting game that challenges you to bring a dead planet to life through the power of terraforming. It's been out for about two weeks now and it's generally been well-received, but there's still a lot we didn't know about this Early Access game. That's exactly why its developer has taken the time to lay out its vision for the game's future.

What's Coming to The Planet Crafter?

Miju Games has revealed what kind of future content we can expect for The Planet Crafter in a Steam Community news post -- and it's also detailed what the game will not have.

Here's the shortlist of features that Miju Games guarantees will be in the game on the road to its 1.0 release:

  • A way bigger map, at least 50% bigger
  • One [vehicle]
  • A complete story arc and some procedural story elements
  • Terraforming stages: Breathable atmosphere / Insects / Fishes / Amphibians
  • More environmental threats
  • Replayability options
  • [Quality of Life] elements and optimization

Early aspects of some of these elements are already in the game to some degree. For example, you can reach the Insects and Fish Terraformation Stages; they just don't really do much in the current version. The map also has some areas that indicate potential expansion. (It also happens to have a few holes where you can walk outside of the playable area, but alas.)

Miju Games also noted that multiplayer might come to the game at some point, but it won't be happening for some time. It wants to wait until after version 1.0 launches and that will probably take somewhere around 2 years. There are no guarantees here, either -- it might turn out that multiplayer isn't possible.

The devs also took the time to note the things that the game won't have. There won't be any spaceships or other planets, nor will there be any enemies or violence; you're going to be disappointed if you're hoping to fight giant space monsters with a laser blaster.

When is the next The Planet Crafter Update?

The next The Planet Crafter update will likely arrive sometime between May 2022 and July 2022; today's news post explains that the update cadence will feature one update every 2-3 months.

For now, there's a fairly robust (albeit occasionally buggy) experience that you can check out right now! You can buy The Planet Crafter for PC via Steam at the price of $17.99 or your regional equivalent, a 10% discount that lasts for around two more days.
