Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now has a new challenger in the game, the hotly anticipated Piranha Plant.
The Piranha Plant was first revealed as an exclusive early purchase character, separate from the planned Fighter Pass DLC that Smash Bros Ultimate will get throughout the year. Upon its reveal, many fans were curious as to how the prolific enemy found in the Super Mario series will play in Smash Bros. Ultimate, with others baffled by its inclusion in the roster.
Well, the wait is over, as the Piranha Plant is now live and available in the game a few days ahead of schedule.
Nintendo has launched the 2.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which added the Piranha Plant to the roster for everyone who has already redeemed their free code for the character. This comes two days before the last day players can acquire a free download code on January 31st.
To download the Piranha Plant, players need to register their copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by January 31st. Players who downloaded the game will have the whole process automated, while physical copies of the game will require players to register the cartridge through their My Nintendo Rewards option on the Switch menu. Once the game is registered, Nintendo would send a code to players, who can redeem it by June 30th.
Those who miss the chance to pick up Piranha Plant for free will see it offered as paid DLC in the future.
The 2.0 update did more than add the extra fighter. Another major change was adding a four-player mode for the Spirit Board. Players select which spirit they want to challenge, then go to party then fighter to select the number of players. Be warned, that the players will lose the battle if any player is KO'd.
Other changes include several gameplay fixes and balance changes, and the inclusion of several spirits in the shop, such as the Partner Pokemon from Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu! and Eevee!.
The next planned DLC character, Joker from Persona 5, will be released later this year. Joker will be the first of five planned characters in the Fighter Pass DLC.
