Fans of strong accents, flat caps, and elaborate crime will be ecstatic to learn that critically acclaimed TV series Peaky Blinders is getting a video game adaptation. Starring Cillian Murphy and depicting the criminal enterprises of the Peaky Blinders gang in 19th-century Birmingham, the series is set to be adapted by developer FuturLab and publisher Curve Digital, according to a recent announcement.

Dominic Wheatley, the CEO of Curve Digital, commented, “We are thrilled to be working with Endemol Shine Group on this unique IP. Peaky Blinders is at the top of my list of favorite TV shows and the characters and stories will now be transformed into an interactive experience. Can’t wait."

Endemol Shine is a multiplatform entertainment company that produces and distributes Peaky Blinders - meaning that if nothing else, creative input from the company should keep the game true to the series.

In light of this news, there has been speculation as to the nature of a Peaky Blinders video game. FuturLab’s past projects have largely been small in scale, tabletop, platform or VR experiences. A linear, story-driven experience would have four seasons of compelling narrative to draw from. A GTA- or Mafia-esque open-world wherein players tear up 19th-century Birmingham as the vicious Peaky Blinders also seems endlessly appealing, although out of scale with FuturLab's past efforts and Curve Digital's publishing portfolio

Details are few at the moment. There is no word yet on whether any of the TV show’s incredible cast will feature. In the above quote, Dominic Wheatley mentioned the “characters” of the show, and given the quality of Peaky Blinders' cast and performances, it would be difficult to accept, for example, anyone other than Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. We do know that it is expected to release in 2020.
