At the PC Gaming Show we got a look at Battletech, a turn based mech stratgy game developed by Hairbrained Studios, the developers behind the recent Shadowrun games. As all Battletech should have, the trailer contained many mechs shoot each other and blowing up. Following this a couple of the developers came out to talk about their game.
The two talked about the game, talking about how it will have a single player skirmish, a multiplayer skirmish, and a campaign. They showed off the Argo, a broken space ship which serves as your HQ where you can take jobs and command your mercenary crew. They then talked about the story which involves your mercenary group assisting a disposed ruler in reclaiming her throne after her uncle disposed of her.
You'll be able to customize your mechs using salvage you'll find from the battlefield, and money you earn for doing mercenary jobs. After this they showed gameplay. Battletech has a full 3D enviroment that you can use to your advantage to avoid being seen or absorb damage. Mechs don't just have hitpoints but have 11 different locations that can be damaged, allowing you to target enemies and disable certain parts. For example, you can take out an enemy's arm to disable a weapon being used by the arm. Mechs also have a heat level that needs to be watched, as an overheating mech will be disabled and left vulnerable to enemy attacks.
You can become a backer and play the beta of the game at their website right now. Battletech is set to release on PC some time in 2017.
