Overkill Software has recently released an update for PAYDAY 2, but the PAYDAY 2 console editions are getting a bit of a delay in actually receiving the patch. Unfortunately, this is going to be the policy going forward.

A news post on Overkill Software's website updates the console community on the state of the latest patch. It starts off by stating that Update 1.5 should now be live as a free update for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players.

That's when the other shoe drops: Overkill states that the PAYDAY 2 console editions will "unfortunately have disparity going forward" — and that's not the end of the bad news.

Citing "constraints in available manpower", they wo n't be able to fix the disparity between the PC and console versions anytime soon. Furthermore, optimization challenges mean that the following hests and features are likely to be excluded from consoles:

  • Shacklethorne Auction Heist (part of Icebreaker Campaign)
  • Reservoir Dogs Heist
  • Hells Island Heist (part of Breaking News Campaign)
  • No Mercy Heist (part of Breaking News Campaign)
  • The White House Heist (part of Breaking News Campaign)
  • The Safe House feature

While this is unfortunate, Overkill Software is going to try to do something for console players on this front — they're trying to figure out if there's a way for them to still deploy the cosmetics to the console editions.

Nintendo Switch players, however, have a much sadder announcement to bear.

The Fate of the PAYDAY 2 Console Edition on Nintendo Switch

"We’re very sad to announce that PAYDAY 2 for Nintendo Switch will be very unlikely to see further updates, despite what our initial ambitions were on the contrary," the news post continued. "As per above, we’ve been forced to make many hard decisions along the road, and this is yet another. To put the Switch version separately into context, the transfer of the game over to the Switch-platform was not made in-house and would require significant further investments to happen."

"We are very aware that this was undesired news, but we’d rather be clear to set the expectations now," the news post continued."

Overkill goes on to state that they've been careful in setting expectations, emphasizing phrases like "highly unlikely" and "very challenging" rather than outright stating that these things are impossible. That's not to say they're entirely giving up, though — they close out this news post full of bad juju with a slightly more hopeful outlook.

"We are, however, very unwilling to close the door completely on some of these issues, and will keep our previous promises in mind as we continue working to secure our business," the news post concluded. "Should we find the opportunity to revisit these challenges, we will do so."

What do you think of the Payday 2 console editions not getting all of the content that the PC version has? Are you disappointed in the disparity? Let us know in the comments below!
