Owlcat Games have announced that Pathfinder: Kingmaker, based on the Pathfinder adventure path of the same name, has been delayed until September 25th.

Previously set to release in August, publisher Deep Silver and Owlcat are taking a bit more time to work on the game and making sure that it will be available digitally and at select retailers. Crowdfunded back in 2017, Pathfinder: Kingmaker features the first true adaptation of the Pathfinder rules set to a digital RPG to date and makes use of one of Paizo's most popular adventure paths.

Featuring work by noted designer Chris Avellone the Pathfinder: Kingmaker computer RPG puts you in the Stolen Lands, a contested territory that you've been tasked with mapping, and then a charter to rule. It features dungeon crawling, and exploring as you might expect, but also diplomacy, politics, and leadership as you determine the path of your kingdom and those companions that you choose to take with you.

Beyond announcing the release date, the various versions for the game were also announced. The Explorer Edition features the game itself and there are three higher-priced editions available. The first is the Noble Edition which gives you the premium digital version (features two balanced additional in-game items), the ArtBook, Soundtrack and two extra player portraits. The Royal Edition includes that and adds a digital map of the Stolen Lands, an in-game pet Red Panda, and the digital Chis Avellone Adventure Module for tabletop play. Finally, the Imperial Edition has everything in the Royal Edition but also includes the Season Pass which will have three packages of post-release DLC adding new companions, locations, buildings, adventures and more.

If you're wondering what it looks like, Deep Silver has released a pair of trailers today, the first being a release date teaser that you can see here:

The second is a feature overview trailer that shows off some of the things in the game:

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is set to release September 25 for PC and is available on GOG and Steam to preorder.

Quick Take

This is perhaps my most anticipated title of the year as someone with a background in tabletop RPGs and knowing the Pathfinder RPG pretty well. Beyond that, I'm a big fan of Chris Avellone's work in general. While it's always a bit disappointing to have to wait longer to get a game, the resulting improvement should hopefully make it more than worth the while.

Also, I hope they fixed that graveyard glitch from the tabletop version... though I wouldn't mind a chuckle at it either in some way. We don't want the best numerical city to be all graveyards now do we?
