Path of Exile

Grinding Gear Games has revealed Synthesis, the next expansion for their increasingly popular loot-driven RPG Path of Exile. Synthesis will launch March 8 alongside the anticipated Path of Exile PlayStation 4 version, which was originally intended to drop in December.

Synthesis will introduce players to Cavas, a brand-new NPC. This ghostly apparition has lost chunks of his memory and needs your help to recover it. Naturally, since this is Path of Exile, you'll have to fight through large quantities of enemies before you can stabilize and restore fragments of his memory.

Combining these memory fragments will create unstable new areas filled with plenty of good ol' fashioned loot, including Fractured Items, a new type of rare item that has some of its properties locked in place. Players can then combine these Fractured Items to create a Synthesized Item - a powerful crafting base with properties influenced by the consumed Fractured Item.

Path of Exile: Synthesis also introduces 14 new gems (spells and abilities), including seven new Skill gems. There will also be some significant balance changes surrounding spellcasting.

Path of Exile has been on a bit of a roll lately. The most recent Betrayal expansion set a new record for concurrent players with 188,970 and GG Games is boasting a 26% increase of total play-time in 2018. Hopefully, the upcoming launch of the PS4 version can bolster that success even more.

Path of Exile: Synthesis launches March 8 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Quick Take

Path of Exile is one of the deepest and rewarding free-to-play games in the market. Grinding Gear Games deserve more recognition for the endless support they provide to Path of Exile and for having one of the most reasonable free-to-play economies I've experienced. I look forward to checking out the PS4 version when it launches.
