Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition (developed by Code Avarice) is a first person shooter with voxel graphics. The game is in the style of the faster-paced FPS games of yesteryear such as DOOM or Wolfenstein 3D. One of its biggest features is the inclusion of roguelike elements including procedurally-generated levels and randomly-distributed item pickups.
The game was originally designed to be played with a keyboard & mouse and there have been a few changes made to the Xbox One version of the game to complement the different control scheme. Players begin the game with higher basic speed and health drops are more common. The Xbox One version of Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition has 45 achievements for you to collect if that's the sort of thing you care about.
Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition is perhaps best known for a controversy that resulted in the game getting pulled from Steam. One of the developers had put out a tweet that could be interpreted as a death threat to Valve co-founder Gabe Newell after encountering frustration with Steam's promotion of their game. The game's developers also suffered from additional financial difficulties after the parent company of digital distributor Desura filed for bankruptcy.
Code Avarice is currently working on an arena shooter called Arkshot. You can view a gameplay trailer of the upcoming game here.
Paranautical Activity was reviewed by TechRaptor here. You can purchase the Xbox One version of Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition for $9.99 or your regional equivalent on the Xbox Store. If you'd prefer to grab the PC version you can get it on GOG.com, the Humble Store, or Steam for the same price.
