Paper Mario: The Origami King will be launching July 17, which is just over a month away. Now for the first time, we're getting some more information on the combat within the latest Paper Mario title, which can be seen in the trailer below:

The game begins with King Olly moving into Peach's castle to take over the world. Mario as always will fight back, going to many interesting places like "underground sewers, raging rapids, an ancient ruin, a ninja-filled mansion, and a lively desert oasis". There's a cast of quirky characters for players to grow to love as well, such as a Bob-omb who is an amnesiac, a Toad professor of ancient history, and a trickster Magikoopa called Kamek. Other characters or even allies range from Olivia, the sister of King Olly, or even Bowser.

The battles themselves are ring-based, which means that they'll require a strategy to line your enemies in order to initiate attacks to maximize the total damage. Players can either stomp on enemies with Mario's boots, hit them with a hammer, or use items to heal or attack.

There is a crowd of cheering Toads that will help out as well during the fights, which will give out "helpful battle aids". This aid will be needed because Paper Mario will be facing off against bosses that are themed around things like rubber bands, colored pencils, and sticky tape. I guess that means that eventually, you'll be in a sticky situation... amirite?

When not fighting, players will be able to find hidden items, repair the landscape around them, and play mini-games to earn in-game rewards, secrets, and treasures.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will be available on the Nintendo Switch on July 17th, 2020.
