Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive have released a new Pacific Drive update, and the two studios are calling this one the "most significant update" since the game was released.

Pacific Drive's last update was released in July alongside an announcement that the game had sold 600,000 copies, and while it brought a Photo Mode and more with it, this one is arguably more substantial.

This update's main focus is the addition of six distinct gameplay presets that sort of serve as difficulty modifiers; each one changes gameplay and difficulty in significant ways, allowing you to fine-tune your experience and play Pacific Drive exactly how you like.

Don't want your car to look like this? Use one of Pacific Drive's six new gameplay presets!

Here's a quick rundown of the six new presets and what they do, courtesy of Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive.

  • Iron Wagon: Significantly increases difficulty, adds permadeath
  • Scenic Tour: Lowers difficulty, removes death and reduces requirements to driving, hazards, damage and crafting
  • Mechanic's Road Trip: Driving is impacted by the terrain and status of the car. Items cost more to repair and cannot be crafted while on runs
  • Joyride: The same gameplay and tension as Pacific Drive, but gathering, crafting and research requirements are all lowered. Damage and failure penalties are minimal
  • Nuclear Journey: Every map will be filled with lose dose radiation that is harmful to the player. Storms are faster and stronger, hazards and damage are more plentiful
  • Olympic Gauntlet: All aspects of the game are much harder. An extreme gauntlet to challenge the most dedicated breachers

As you can see, the new presets are a mixture of harder and easier modifiers, so you should be able to find one that matches how you want to play Pacific Drive. Of course, if you want, you can just play the game as it was originally designed without any of these modifiers.

If these presets aren't to your liking, you can also tweak them with different fine-tune settings, including car customization, visible or invisible radiation, and even flat tire severity, among many others. There are more than 50 options to discover.
