We knew it was coming and now the moment is finally here! To celebrate the impending arrival of Christmas, Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch gets another holiday event to follow up the recent Halloween and Olympic events.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and we hope you'll join us for some holiday cheer!

That's right—Overwatch is getting into the holiday spirit with a brand-new seasonal event. We’ve decked the halls of Hanamura and King’s Row, stuffed our Loot Boxes full of festive goodies, and arranged an extra-special snowball fight for you and your friends. So, grab a mug of hot cocoa, put on your favorite ugly sweater, and get ready to jingle all the way to Overwatch's Winter Wonderland!

Like like with the Halloween and Summer Games events, this event adds a ton of new cosmetic items to the game. These items can be found in the Winter Loot Boxes, which replace the regular loot boxes for the duration of the event. Every loot box will contain at least one new item themed after the holiday. There are 100 new items like highlight intros for specific heroes, new victory poses, sprays, and skins.

While you can use any and all cosmetic items you find in the loot boxes, the Overwatch Winter Wonderland cosmetic items will only be available until January 2.

After the past two events, we've sort of come to expect that a new event brings with it a completely new brawl. This time around, the special brawl is called 'Mei's Snowball Offensive'. This mode pits two teams of six players against each other in a "single-elimination shindig".

In this brawl, Mei's Endothermic Blaster no longer unleashes a stream of frost or shoots icicles. Instead, it's been modified to fire a single, super-powered snowball. Taking down an enemy only takes one hit, but a miss can be costly. Once your weapon is empty, your enemies will have the advantage as you search for the nearest snow pile to reload, so don't forget to cover your retreat with ice walls and cryo-freeze to block their attacks—and when the battle starts to heat up, you can activate Mei's Ultimate, which turns her blaster into a semi-automatic snowball launcher, allowing you to fire continuously as your enemies scatter.
This patch also gives some of the game's maps a wintery makeover, with King's Row looking more festive than it ever did before!

In addition to the new event, this patch also introduces a fair amount of fixes and tweaks, including the new Symmetra revamp players could test out on the PTR for the past few weeks.

The Overwatch Winter Wonderland event is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
