Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has stated that they will "eventually" be changing the Mystery Heroes game mode as reported by PVP Live.

Jeff Kaplan was responding to a thread by Battle.net user m4ss3y. m4ss3y was requesting that Blizzard take another look at the game mode, stating that factors such as losing ultimate charge after death results in a more conservative play style which they feel doesn't suit the overall gameplay philosophy of Overwatch. He recommended that ult charge would be retained after death with the caveat that suiciding to deliberately re-roll for a more ideal hero would remove it.

In response, Jeff Kaplan thanked m4ss3y for their feedback and said that they were talking about Mystery Heroes internally this very day. He stated that one of the things they are looking to do away with is the character selection screen as its wholly redundant for this game mode. Blizzard was "restricted by the old tech" when the game was initially released but now it's doable. He also raised the point of players "self-eliminating" (read, suiciding) to change their hero and has considered making that impossible in a future build of the game mode. Other posters in the thread have contended that players would instead feed the enemy team to kill themselves and ultimately power up the opposition.

As for Ultimates, Jeff Kaplan states that the team is essentially split on the issue as to whether or not players should retain their ultimate charge after death. He did, however, making a point of stating that it "feels off to us" to randomly be assigned the same hero after dying and not retain your ultimate charge. No time frame has been specified for the changes, and Mr. Kaplan concedes that this isn't a high priority issue for them. Nonetheless, the Overwatch team is aware that Mystery Heroes could do with some improvement and they'll be looking at the game mode at some point in the future.

What do you think of the proposed changes to the Mystery Heroes game mode? Do you think that players should be able to retain their Ultimate Charge after dying? Do you think players ought to be able to suicide if they get a hero they don't like? Why do you like or dislike this particular game mode? Let us know in the comments below!
