It’s official; everybody and their mother are playing Overwatch. Yesterday in a press release, Blizzard stated that since the game’s worldwide launch on May 24, over 7 million people have joined the fight in Overwatch. This is just a week and a half since the game came to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and it’s expected that Blizzard’s newest IP will continue to a massive commercial success moving forward. With over 11 million payloads delivered, heroes swapped 326 million times, and 119 million combined hours logged across all three platforms, I think it’s safe to say that people are hooked on Overwatch.

Commercial success isn’t the only thing Overwatch has going for it. The hero-based FPS has enjoyed an abundance of critical praise as well. Our reviewer Alex Santa Maria gave the game a 7.5 out of 10, labeling it as “very good”. Read our full review of the game here. Outside of TechRaptor, other sites are also praising Blizzard's shooter, earning it a 92 on Metacritic and OpenCritic. Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, expressed his appreciation for Overwatch's success in the following quote:

Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch—from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who’d never picked up a game like this before—and we’re very grateful for everyone’s incredible passion and enthusiasm. We poured a lot of effort into creating a game—and a new universe—that anyone could enjoy. We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we’re looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come.

Still want more Overwatch content? Well, we’ve got plenty here at TechRaptor. We’ve got plenty of Overwatch guides, including guides for the tank, support, and offensive hero classes. You can also check out our heroes and counter guide here. We've also been covering various news regarding the game including McCree's possible nerf and Blizzard's plans for introducing a competitive game mode into the game. Still not enough? Well, you can catch us streaming the game occasionally over on our Twitch channel, and I can assure you that we’ll have plenty more Overwatch content coming to the site in the future.

What do you think of Overwatch so far? With over 7 million players so far, what do you think the future holds for Blizzard's newest IP? Let us know in the comment section below.
