Blizzard have announced that the player count for their phenomenally popular hero shooter Overwatch has surpassed the 25 million players mark, continuing the upward trend for the game after its remarkably successful release last year. The last player announcement in October had put the player count at 20 million. This news comes from a Twitter post on the official Overwatch account:

Since the game's official release back in May 2016, the team behind Overwatch led by Game Director Jeff Kaplan has introduced a steady stream of new content to the game, as well as a host of seasonal events that introduced a variety of new cosmetic items for players to use. These seasonal events also introduced new, but temporary, game modes themed after the seasonal event. While most of the features and tweaks introduced to the game post launch, there were also some things the game's team could've done better. The overly long ARG that was meant to introduce the character to a game outstayed its welcome significantly, leaving many to hope that Blizzard does not attempt another ARG in the future.

Despite the occasional misstep, Overwatch remains a compelling game to many people, both casual and professional players. The game's focus on competition and team play also gave birth to a Blizzard-hosted Overwatch League where the best of the best fight for each other to find out who's the best. Currently, players can play a special Capture The Flag mode during the game's 'Year of the Rooster' seasonal event, which adds new items themed after the Chinese New Year to the game, although the new mode hasn't been received by all, due to some execution issues.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
