Blizzard's multiplayer hero shooter Overwatch is coming to Nintendo Switch next month.

News of the game's release on Nintendo's platform comes via Kotaku. A post on ResetEra originally leaked the game's release via a European retail listing. This leak was subsequently verified by Kotaku's Jason Schreier, who says the site has confirmed the leak's veracity "with two of our own sources". If the news is legit - which is looking pretty likely - then it'll probably be officially announced on tonight's Nintendo Direct presentation.

This news comes after Twitter user and industry analyst Wario64 posted an Amazon listing for an Overwatch-themed Nintendo Switch case earlier this month. That listing quickly vanished. Wario64's tweet, along with images of the case in question, remains available to view. Wario64 says the case is "officially licensed by Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment", suggesting it's not just a third-party accessory. Looks like that case was prophetic.

We're not yet sure whether Overwatch will have any features or content unique to the Switch, or whether cross-progression will be supported. Many games ported across to the platform end up with unique stuff; think The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's Zelda-themed equipment. We're hoping some Nintendo-themed skins or sprays wouldn't be too much to ask. The Switch is rather lacking in hero shooters or games in a similar vein, so Overwatch makes a lot of sense for the console, although it will be competing with Hi-Rez's free to play Hero Shooter (and Overwatch knock off) Paladins.

Overwatch originally launched back in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Since launch, the game has enjoyed regular content updates and patches, including several new heroes and maps. If it's legit, we're expecting Overwatch to pop up during tonight's Nintendo Direct. It'll join the likes of Pokemon Sword and Shield and Luigi's Mansion 3 as the focus of the presentation. We may also get some more info on upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters. Be sure to tune in tonight at 3 pm PT / 6 pm ET to find out.
