It looks like the rumors about the start date of the next Overwatch event were true. To celebrate the spookiest month of the year, Blizzard has announced the Overwatch Halloween Terror event for its hit game. Starting October 10, new time-limited cosmetic items will be available for players to earn from loot boxes, and the event will run until November 2.
The event was announced via the Overwatch Twitter account, which shared a seven-second teaser trailer with the following poem: “The nights grow cold / And monsters appear / A great evil gathers / And Halloween draws near…”
The teaser shows off new skins for McCree and Reaper, but any other new skins have yet to be confirmed.
This isn’t the first time the game has been graced with a spooky Halloween-themed event. Last year, Halloween Terror ran from October 11 to November 1, featuring its own array of exclusive cosmetics as well as a PvE game mode called Junkenstein’s Revenge. In it, players had to fight Junkenstein (aka Junkrat) and his spooky horde of robots, and other characters like Mercy, Reaper, and Roadhog made appearances as enemies. Using a team comprised of Soldier: 76, McCree, Ana, and Hanzo, it was up to you to stop Junkenstein from storming the castle you’re defending.
Although it isn’t explicitly stated that the PvE mode will make a return this year, the logo in the teaser trailer seems all but telling that Junkenstein will make some kind of return. Whether it will remain the same or see some tweaks has yet to be determined.
If the event follows the footsteps of the 2017 Overwatch Summer Games, previous exclusive cosmetics from last year’s Halloween Terror will see a return at discounted prices. So if you missed the opportunity to get a skin from last year, you just might have a chance again starting next week.
