The Overwatch Anniversary 2019 event will be coming in just a few days, celebrating all of the wonderful creations that took place throughout the year. What's more, it seems like the Overwatch Workshop may be going live at the same time.
The announcement of the Overwatch Anniversary 2019 date was posted to the game's official Twitter account. The event's all set to return on May 21, 2019. A post on the game's forums also states that they're going to be winding down the Public Test Realm which included testing of the Overwatch Workshop, a series of customizations that has let people create some pretty interesting game modes.
Several details about this year's anniversary event haven't yet been made clear. The event has previously included a discount on the game along with a free weekend for people to try out Overwatch for themselves. There is also speculation in the /r/Overwatch subreddit and elsewhere that this may be the year that the game goes free-to-play. While that's entirely possible, it may not be all that likely considering that Overwatch's price dropped in the early days of 2019.
Although we know that Overwatch Anniversary 2019 is returning soon, the exact details of the event haven't yet been revealed. Events in previous years have rotated through every other game mode available in the other events. Blizzard had also previously made every skin from the other events available, giving players the opportunity to catch up on anything they missed in terms of cosmetics.
One other seemingly strange absence is the lack of a skin reveal. Overwatch events typically show off new skins once or twice a day. However, the announcement of this year's Anniversary Event is cutting it awfully close and we may not get any announcements before the event launches. In any case, you'll be able to participate in the Overwatch Anniversary 2019 event on May 21, 2019.
