Ever wanted to see a game play at the insanely silky 1,000 FPS framerate? Well, now you can, thanks to a team of tech wizards, Bethesda, and Doom Eternal

A team of Polish gamers who work for x-kom named Piotr "Lipton" Szymanski and Marcin "Ryba" Rywak, attempted to do the impossible, make a game like Doom Eternal run at a record-breaking 1,000 frames per second on a specially built, overclocked computer system cooled entirely with liquid nitrogen!

Szymanski and Rywak created a machine that included an Intel eight-core i7 9700K processor that was strengthened by ASUS RTX 2080Ti, ultra-fast HyperX Predator memory card, and an M2 Samsung drive. All of this would be powered by all powered by BeQuiet’s 1200W Straight Power.

The real component that gave x-kom an advantage was their decision to literally freeze the system while it attempted to reach its maximum capacity. After overclocking the system, the heat was so intense that Rywak and Szymanski had to use liquid nitrogen constantly to cool down the system build. The nitrogen, which sits at a -321 degrees Fahrenheit (or -196 degrees Celsius), is dangerous to use, but had to be applied to the system while it was being overclocked to the limit to keep the temperatures low enough for to achieve 1,000 FPS.

In the end, Doom Eternal would officially be clocked in at 1,006 frames per second, the highest ever recorded for a video game. It would take all eight CPU cores to clock in at nearly 6.6 GHz, combined with the liquid nitrogen, to achieve this.

“I didn’t believe it, but we made it. It all went down to Ryba’s experience”, says Szymanski, speaking of his partner Rywak, who was a previous European Master Overclocking Champion.

In the end, the achievement by x-kom is a testament to the ingenuity and technical skill of some players out there to create a world record that we never thought we needed.
