Red Barrels has announced that they're working on The Outlast Trials, the next game in the Outlast series.
Taking place during the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will have you and up to three other players participating in a set of possibly unethical experiments. Details on the game are still light, but Red Barrels has confirmed that it's not a direct sequel to either game and that it will take place in the Outlast universe. It may be a while before you can get your hands on the game though, as development is only a few months in and they're just starting the production process. However, more news is promised soon.
Red Barrels co-founder David Chateauneuf had the following to say about the game:
We are proud to reveal the title and the first image of the game to our great community and fans. Our team is hard at work creating a new experience that will bring fear and anxiety to millions of players, whether they go through the experiments alone or with friends. Now we’ve done our proof of concept, it is time focus on content creation, variety… and gore,
Developer Red Barrels was founded in 2011 by several former Ubisoft devs. In 2013 they released their first game, Outlast, a horror game success that managed to sell well and scare many. It was followed up in 2014 by its expansion Outlast: Whistleblower, and a full sequel with 2017's Outlast 2. This will be both the third game in the series, and the third full game developed by Red Barrels.
The Outlast Trials does not currently have a release date or platforms.
