The Outer Worlds arrives on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in just a few short months. If you find yourself playing the Nintendo Switch more than any other console, you might want to wait for the newly announced The Outer Worlds Switch port.

Obsidian Entertainment, developer of The Outer Worlds, and publisher Private Division, announced that a Nintendo Switch port for the game is in the works. Development studio Virtuous will help with porting the game over to the Switch. Some of Virtuous' past work includes the Nintendo Switch versions of Starlink: Battle for Atlas and Dark Souls Remastered.

Right now, there's no set release date for the port aside from a note that it will not launch with the other platforms on October 25th, 2019. For now, the above video goes into the specifics of The Outer Worlds if you're interested to learn more about this game.

This might be the followup to Fallout: New Vegas fans have been asking for. The Outer Worlds is a first-person RPG with a large amount of character freedom and customization. According to The Outer Worlds' website, the plot is as follows: "Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later than you expected only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony."

Your character can specialize in all manner of weapons and skills, be it melee or ranged weapons, stealth, hacking, and more. Missions can be tackled in many different ways. If you want to fight hostile humans guns blazing, you can, or you might be able to talk your way out of the situation. It's the freedom that Obsidian Entertainment is known for.

If you'd like to hear more about The Outer Worlds, check out our thoughts from E3. The Nintendo Switch port for The Outer Worlds arrives sometime in the future. In the meantime, the game launches on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 25th, 2019.

Quick Take

I watched a hands-off demo for The Outer Worlds at E3, and I was left very impressed. The visuals appeared much better in person than trailers led me to believe. I think that Virtuous will have a tough task, porting this beautiful game over to the Switch. I hope that they don't sacrifice the game's stunning visuals too much, so time will tell how it all turns out.
