Last week developer Mobius Digital announced that their upcoming open-world exploration game Outer Wilds will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Today they've just announced the official release date for the game on May 30. It will be published in a partnership with publisher Annapurna Interactive.

The upcoming open-world exploration game was first announced in 2015. That same year, it also won on the Seumas McNally Grand Prize and Excellence in Design categories at the 2015 GDC Independent Games Festival. It was also the first game to be featured in the video game crowdfunding platform Fig, achieving its $125,000 goal within schedule. The developer then made a deal with publisher Annapurna Interactive, and in December last year, we reported that the game had been delayed to 2019.

Outer Wilds focuses on open world exploration surrounding a solar system where time is stuck in an endless loop. It compels players to search for answers in an ever-changing universe, where you play as the newest member of the space program called Outer Wilds Ventures. The planets in Outer Wilds are packed with hidden locations that change with the passage of time. You can visit an underground city before it submerges under the sand, or explore the surface of a planet as it crumbles beneath your feet.

Some key features include planets, moons, and abandoned alien structures and spacecraft, where you can discover the mysteries of this handcrafted, fully dynamic solar system. The Outer Wilds Ventures is a fledgling space program for spacefarers seeking answers from an indifferent universe. The planets and their hidden locations change with the passage of time. A variety of unique gadgets can be used to probe your surroundings, track down mysterious signals, decipher ancient alien writing, and even roast marshmallows.

Outer Wilds releases on May 30 for PC on the Epic Games Store (where it is currently $10 off as part of the Epic Mega Sale) and Xbox One. You can find more information on the official website.
