One of Capcom's most beloved titles, the original Devil May Cry, will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch this summer. The announcement was made from the official Devil May Cry 5 Twitter page earlier today (May 6th) and featured the original game's European cover artwork. The first title in the series was originally released back in 2001 for the PS2 and was first intended to be the fourth entry into the famous Resident Evil series, before being split off into its own story and, eventually, series.

The announcement was met with much speculation about what this release might mean for Devil May Cry characters and their place in Nintendo properties. Much of the speculation surrounded the possibility of Dante being a playable character in future Smash Bros. games, mainly based on a report from Nintendolife which stated that current director of the series Hideki Itsuno thought the games needed to be on the Switch before any characters would be considered for inclusion in Smash titles. With the series seeming like it will be made available on the Switch after all there is now some hope that we may soon receive a game where Dante gets to beat up Pikachu.

The tweet didn't give much else away apart from the vague Summer release date, but with the overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement, it's possible that both Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3 may see Switchports in the not too distant future. In the meantime keep your eyes peeled for an actual release date which will hopefully be revealed over the next few weeks and months.
