A new Old-School RuneScape update has arrived, launching the "Beneath Cursed Sands" quest in advance of the Tombs of Amascut raid that's set to arrive in Summer 2022.

Old-School RuneScape is a long-running RPG that can be run in a web browser. It weathered a controversy late last year when Jagex announced that it would put a stop to third-party HD clients -- a decision that it later reversed after backlash from its playerbase. Jagex has moved on from that turmoil, and now it's shifting its focus toward new content.

What's New in the 'Beneath Cursed Sands' Old-School RuneScape Update?

The major addition in today's Old-School RuneScape update is a new quest called Beneath Cursed Sands, laying the foundation for the upcoming Tombs of Amascut raid.

"Beneath Cursed Sands is an all-new quest designed to support our most narrative-driven raid yet, Tombs of Amascut," read the announcement (via Reddit). "That’s set to launch this summer, but you can play the quest today and get up to date on all the latest happenings in the Kharidian Desert."

This new quest also introduces some cool rewards. The most interesting of these rewards by far is the Circlet of Water, an untradeable helm that functions similar to a Waterskin. Five Water Runes can be used to add a charge, and a maximum of 500,000 charges can be stored in the circlet. Using it to drink water will remove a charge.

Beneath Cursed Sands has some other quest rewards and there are some other changes coming to the game with this update, too -- you can read about all of the fine details in today's announcement.

Old-School RuneScape update aside, the RuneScape board game Kickstarter launch date has been revealed -- the campaign will kick off on May 31, 2022.

The RuneScape board game is called RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg. 1-5 players will compete against one another to complete quests, level up their skills, and fight bosses. Pledge pricing has not yet been announced.

Beneath Cursed Sands adds a pretty cool new item and the first step for the next big raid. You can play the quest today, and you can look forward to Tombs of Amascut arriving in Summer 2022. For now, there's plenty of other great content to explore -- you can play Old-School RuneScape for free right now via its official website.
