Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus VR, told the audience in the Dublin 2014 web summit that "We’re getting very close. It’s months, not years away, but many months” in regards to a commercial release of the upcoming Virtual reality goggles, the Oculus Rift.

Virtual reality is one of those ideas that were far too ahead of its time during the launch of the Virtual Boy back in 1995. The technology of the day was still too infantile to fully pull off a realistic virtual experience. However. The invention of the Oculus Rift, which has been used mainly by high end journalists and YouTube Celebrity PewDiePie, has given the product a much needed push.

Now, sometime in the year 2015, although there has been no definitive release date despite pre-orders being available on their site for 350 dollars each, the device will be released as a consumer product. The main issues it seems to be facing at the moment is development of an up-to-par input device, allowing for it to be used best in conjunction with a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad.

Iribe claims that he is "eager for this to happen" but that he also "wants to get it right." So hopefully it will be available for purchase sometime in 2015.
