The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 has been announced at CES 2022, and that's not even the best surprise -- it's going to be arriving at retailers later this month at a very reasonable price point.

"A decade ago, we introduced the 50-class GPU, offering gamers great performance on the latest architecture at an affordable price," explained Nvidia GeForce Senior VP Jeff Fisher during the company's CES 2022 Special Address. "It was the first step up into GTX gaming. In fact, three of the top 5 GPUs on Steam are GTX 50-class -- and one of the most successful is the GTX 1050."

"When it was released in 2016, the GTX 1050 could power the top games of the time at over 60 frames per second," Fisher continued. "But the production value of games continues to rise and modern games need much more GPU horsepower. The GTX 1050 struggles to keep up. Even a 1050 Ti or the more modern GTX 1650 can't power the latest games at 60 frames per second."

"Today, we are announcing the RTX 3050. The GeForce RTX 3050 brings the performance and efficiency of the Ampere architecture to more gamers than ever before. It powers the latest games at over 60 frames per second."

NVIDIA RTX 3050 announced chart

A chart citing several recent releases shows noticeable improvements in modern games whether you're into the sad dad in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the fast-paced chaos of Doom Eternal, or the rich world of Remedy's ControlDoom Eternal, for instance, sees an impressive gain of 100 FPS at 1080p on an i9 CPU with RTX and the highest graphical settings enabled.

Naturally, these improvements apply to older games, too. If you've been struggling to play some of your favorite games at low framerates, this looks like it would be an excellent option for an upgrade -- and it won't break the bank, either.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 release date is January 27, 2022, according to today's announcement during CES 2022. As always, a number of partners have cooked up their own versions of the card (as seen in our header image).

Best of all, you won't have to spend a lot of cash to get it -- you'll be able to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 at participating retailers at the price of $249.99 or your regional equivalent. Let's just hope we'll actually be able to get these cards when they launch.
