A Polish article has caused a bit of a kerfuffle on the Internet — it seems that the wording used in the original article and/or the translation resulted in the belief that there were three Cyberpunk 2077  games in development. However, CD PROJEKT RED has stepped in to clarify the situation.

GamesIndustry.biz (and several other sites) originally reported that CD PROJEKT RED had split into five teams, allocated as follows:

  • The current Cyberpunk 2077 game
  • A second game in the same franchise
  • A third game in the same franchise
  • Gwent
  • Another unannounced project

This information came from the Polish-language website bankier.pl which reported on a conference call where CD PROJEKT RED President Adam Kiciński talked about what the company was working on. Here is the machine-translated quote from the article:

"We're working on three cyberpunk things - over the main game and over two more. These are three teams. We are also working on ['Gwent'] and we have still unplayed game in Spokko. So we have five working teams, three working on 'Cyberpunk' " - CD PROJEKT RED President Adam Kiciński

However, they have since clarified this commentary with a statement to GameSpot:

"We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077. These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D. A separate, dedicated team at the Warsaw studio is handling the development of Gwent. The final team is Spokko, which is currently working on a yet unannounced mobile project."

So no, there are not three Cyberpunk 2077 games in development. Rather, two of the five teams are working on the game itself and a third is working on technology research and development.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on April 16, 2020. You should watch the game's E3 2019 trailer for yourself below if you haven't already to enjoy an epic surprise at the end!
