We finally have a No Man's Sky Switch release date. After the port was announced earlier this year, publisher Bandai Namco and developer Hello Games have revealed that the procedurally-generated space sim will come to the Nintendo Switch this October.

When is the No Man's Sky Switch release date?

Just a couple of weeks after Apple announced it would bring No Man's Sky to its M2 devices, the No Man's Sky Switch release date has been announced. You'll be able to get your hands on the space sandbox on Nintendo's hybrid console starting from October 7th this year. Originally, the port was targeting a mid-2022 release, but it looks like that hasn't been possible. You can check out Bandai Namco's launch trailer for No Man's Sky on Nintendo Switch right here.

At launch, the Switch version of No Man's Sky will feature every major update for the game, including Sentinels, the recently-updated Expeditions, and the latest update Outlaws. Otherwise, it's exactly what you'd expect: it's No Man's Sky on Switch, complete with the choice of playing in handheld or docked mode. Alongside the Switch version, No Man's Sky will also receive a physical release on PS5, so if you're a collector or you just like to have boxes on shelves, then you should definitely look out for that.

What is No Man's Sky?

If you haven't heard of No Man's Sky before, then you've avoided one of gaming's most high-profile riches-to-rags-to-riches stories. The game was originally released in 2016, where it met with widespread negative reviews and criticism from the player base due to its perceived lack of content and differences from its trailers (although TechRaptor rather liked it at the time). Following this criticism, Hello Games and its founder Sean Murray knuckled down and began improving the game, releasing multiple free updates to bring No Man's Sky to parity with what gamers expected from it. What followed was a rather quiet redemption story in which No Man's Sky went from industry pariah to a game for which fans purchased a billboard to thank its developers for their hard work.

No Man's Sky has had a long, strange journey.

You can pick up No Man's Sky right now on PC, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox consoles. It's also available on Xbox Game Pass. The Switch version lands on October 7th and will be available either physically or via the Nintendo eShop, so make sure to clear some space on your Switch's storage before then if you want to download it. We'll bring you more on No Man's Sky as soon as we get it.
