No Man's Sky Atlas Rising Update Active Portals

Hello Games, the studio behind open-world space exploration game No Man's Sky, has today announced that the game will be making its way to Xbox One alongside a huge update, this summer. The physical Xbox One version of the game is being distributed by Payday 2 publisher 505 games and will release later this year. The Xbox One version of the game will come with all released content so far. The game is also set to receive a huge update, dubbed No Man's Sky NEXT.

Details around the update are scarce, though we do know it will be the largest update to the game so far. Speaking in a press release, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray gave some hints as to what to expect from No Man's Sky NEXT:

“We called this update NEXT, because it’s an important next step in a journey for No Man's Sky, for Hello games and for our devoted community. Each update for No Man's Sky has been more successful than the last; this was especially true for our last update Atlas Rises. It emboldens the team to push ourselves further. This journey is far from over, and it's exciting to be working again on something you know will surprise people"
No Man's Sky has been a PlayStation 4 console exclusive since August 2016, when it had a less than smooth launch. There was huge controversy surrounding the game's marketing, with many suggesting that it had included false advertising as to the game which players eventually received. The game was even investigated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) but no foul play was found. This wasn't enough for many players though, so a revised refund policy was eventually applied to the game.

Since then though, the game has seen several substantial updates which have added everything from base-building to a meta-game filled with mysteries and a cryptic marketing plan. There is definitely still a substantial following around the game, with forums and the game's reddit page seeing consistent activity and buzz. It seems that developer Hello Games shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon so we will update with further details around No Man's Sky NEXT as we get them.

In the meantime, you can check out our review of the game here.
