According to gaming website VGC, Nintendo is planning to celebrate Super Mario Bros' upcoming 35th anniversary in a big way. Supposedly, there will be a significant event during which Nintendo will reveal both new Mario titles and remasters for the Switch.

VGC cites "multiple sources" as saying that Nintendo is planning to reveal plans to re-release the majority of Mario's back catalog this year. If VGC's sources are correct, then the existing back catalog games will be remastered for the Switch. Alongside the news, VGC released an image showing several of Mario's previous adventures across the years. Whether or not this is a comprehensive list of the games to be remastered, we don't know. The caption simply says "most of Mario's back catalog will be remastered for Switch, VGC was told".

VGC says that when the remastered Super Mario Bros games are announced, the news will be accompanied by info on other Nintendo projects in the pipeline. We'll be learning more about the new Super Nintendo World theme park, as well as the upcoming animated Super Mario movie. Again, it's important to stress that none of this has been confirmed by Nintendo itself, but it's pretty plausible nonetheless. This info - and these remastered games - would join the new Lego Super Mario playset which was revealed earlier this month.

According to VGC, the original reveal event was to take place at a physical gathering at E3 this June. A couple of weeks back, Nintendo said it was considering "various ways" (thanks, Nintendo Life) to interact with fans after the cancellation of E3, so we could well see the reveal of this Super Mario Bros info in another format. As soon as we know more about Nintendo's prospective plans for Super Mario Bros' 35th anniversary, we'll let you know. Until then, let's hope the leak is real because it would be great to revisit some of these titles.
