Upcoming Nintendo Switch Online NES Titles

Every month since launch, Nintendo has been releasing NES classics for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. According to Nintendo, the next games will hit the service on June 12. These games are Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Volleyball, and City Connection.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is the 1990 sequel port to the original 1988 Double Dragon port. Both games are very distinct titles from their original arcade counterparts, but they're still essentially classic beat-'em-ups, with the option for simultaneous couch co-op gameplay. You can play as Billy and Jimmy Lee, the Double Dragons, as they seek revenge for the loss of Marian. They must defeat the evil Shadow Warriors, but not before completing nine missions and facing throngs of street gangs, ninjas, and mutant fighters.

Volleyball is a classic sports game where you spike for a point, slam a perfect serve and make a save that might win the game for your team. As captain of the team, you must lead it through a fast-paced warm-up round, and then quickly move into the heat of real volleyball competition. The first team to reach 15 points wins the set, and the first team to win three sets wins the match.

City Connection is another arcade platformer that made the leap to the NES in 1985. You'll play as Clarice, who's on the run after breaking into an exclusive paint store in New York City, and while you're on the run from cops, you have to carry 10-gallon leaky cans  of paint as you drive over every mile of New York City highways and finally catch a boat to England.

The Nintendo Switch Online subscription service launched in September last year, with access to 20 NES titles, including Ice ClimberThe Legend of ZeldaBalloon FightSoccerTennisMario Bros.Super Mario Bros.Dr. MarioSuper Mario Bros. 3Donkey KongGhosts ’n GoblinsExcitebikeTecmo BowlYoshiDouble DragonGradiusIce HockeyRiver City RansomPro Wrestling, and Baseball. Every game has been enhanced with online features and can be played anytime and anywhere. Other features include Save Data Cloud backup for compatible games, plus a smartphone app that enhances features of supported games, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Last month we reported May’s NES games, Donkey Kong Jr.Vs. Excitebike, and Clu Clu Land. In January we also reported that SNES would hopefully start joining the Nintendo Switch Online catalog, but so far we haven’t heard anything from Nintendo, and we are all still waiting and hoping. If we're lucky we might hear something at E3.

You can find more information about Nintendo Switch Online, view membership options and learn about a free seven-day trial for new users on the official website.
