Mario Kart 8 was shown briefly in the Nintendo Switch Event, but not much information was revealed about it. However, in a press release we have a little bit more. The Switch version will be called Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and will be releasing April 28, 2017, meaning it is not a Nintendo Switch Launch title.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will bring with it a whole host of new additions. The Inklings from Splatoon are now in the game as characters, and some returning characters from previous Mario Kart games are finally in 8 with King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr. There are three new vehicles as well. Deluxe also has new courses and a revamped battle mode in Balloon Battle and Bob-Omb Blast. Finally, in Deluxe you can carry up to two items at once as you drive around the track.

As for multiplayer, you can play with up to four people at once in TV Mode on the Switch, or you can play with up to eight friends on using the wireless local multiplayer option. You can do all this with every bit of DLC from Mario Kart 8 as it is all included Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which includes every single track from the original game.

Finally, you can now take Mario Kart 8 on the go with you in Deluxe as it's not longer tethered to just your TV with the Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now the definitive version of the game and anyone who enjoyed the version on the Wii U will more than likely enjoy the Switch version as well.
